A desert child from Tucson, Arizona, Jason was fascinated by the art of storytelling even before fully understanding the craft. As a boy, he didn’t just play with GI Joes or Legos – he had epic and ongoing sagas with them, filled with intrigue and adventure. Even his paper plane collection was rife with heated rivalries. As a young man, Jason put his pen to paper regularly, and was granted admission into the University of Southern California’s School of Cinema Television as a freshman, studying in the very prestigious Writing Division. Wanting to be the best storyteller of his class, Jason developed a disciplined and holistic approach to forging his craft, taking all he could from every medium: from film to novels, rock operas to video games, and Fraggle Rock to table-top role playing.
The key to stories as he sees it is to make the audience “feel and believe”, a principle he champions at every turn possible (often with grand gestures and soaring background music). A jack of all trades, Jason’s non-writing exploits are often a well of inspiration: debuting in children’s theater at the age of twenty-four, touring Italy with a friend’s Mariachi group, exploring haunted places in the middle of the night, and standing on the edge of a fourteen story building just to take a good photograph. Ten screenplays, 2.5 novels, and a host of lyrical exploits later, Jason still believes in handwriting new material before typing it, that writers should be viewed as rockstars, and that the paths through all writer’s block are mapped in the texture of ceilings.
